My name is Calvin Fisher my wife Karen and I started Cowboy's Reliable Recycling in Milan Illinois.
What we are trying to do here is make it easier for folks to get rid of their unwanted items or the items the city they live in has told them to get rid of. We specialize in Computer and electronics but we have seen a need in recycling Appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, hot water heaters, washers, dryers, microwaves, freezers. We also take air conditoners, lawnmowers, cell phones, all power tools, basily anything with a cord on it. All kinds of steel, aluminum windows and doos, camper shells as long as they are aluminun not the plastic ones. We have been known to even junk a car every now and again. We do buy junk cars but not for more than $50.00 unless we are sure we can make some money on it. The scrap yards do pay a fair price for the cars but we have to think of the price of the gas it takes to go after the car then we have to travel about 50 miles to get paid for it. Some folks think we are nto being fair but to us it is not right to pay $150.00 for a car then to only get $160.00 out of it that means we only made $10.00 that is not worth it on our part. It takes a lot of work to load a car on our flatbed and we have to take the gas tank off of it and then the gas it cost to drive the 50 miles to get paid. But everybody had their opinion on things and they have that right to do so.
We are just trying to help people who cannot afford to pay the high prices of the other recycling centers all we charge for is $10.00 for our gas to go to your house to get anything but if you being it me it is free except for computer monitors we charge $1.00 and TV'S we charge $2.00 we have to account to the EPA that we are getting them off the streets and not in the landfills or in someones ditch. They have lead in the picture tubes of both Computer monitors and TV'S.
People cannot afford to pay the fines the cities are charging for keeping the items. The way I understand it the laws in the cities are getting really tough and the people are loosing their jobs and have problems paying their bills let along pay fines or pay the high prices the other places are charging to take the junk off of their hands. We are trying to be their for them and be a free drop of site for all things that can be recycled. We do not take plastic, paper or cardboard or wood or furnature but we take everything else.
